About Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a part of a comprehensive medical system called Traditional Chinese Medicine. TCM includes acupuncture, acupressure, Tuina (massage), moxibustion, exercise and nutrition. It treats the whole person to maintain and restore energetic balance. The vital flow of energy throughout the body (known as Qi) can become disrupted at times. If these imbalances in the free movement of Qi are not addressed, illness and disease may occur. Qi is believed to flow through pathways (meridians) that network the body, much like nerves or blood vessels. These meridians are accessible through approximately 400 main acupuncture points. By inserting extremely thin needles (about the diameter of a strand of hair) into various points, in different combinations, the practitioner is able to rebalance the flow of energy. This allows your body to use its own mechanism to heal itself.
